Mariano Otheguy

Multitalented personality, Mariano brings to life a unique synergy between his careers in Engineering Research and as a singer and performer. Born in Buenos Aires in a multicultural family of artists, he lived for most of his life in Spain. This multinational background led to an unavoidable blend of the local and national Spanish folk with his South American roots. He has performed traditional Spanish and South American folk music in Tokyo, New York, Beijing and Reykjavik amongst other awesome places in the world. All places and people from whom he enjoyed learning about the different cultures and music of the world. He has directed different Spanish folk ensembles, being awarded for that in international festivals in Madrid and Eindhoven. After arriving to the UK in 2006, he and his colleague Sergio Camacho joined forces to create Luna de Mayo, a multifaceted canvas where their original compositions melt along with the amazing talent of local musicians and dancers and stunning images in a unique theatre landscape. He has also performed with local ensembles from Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas to a capella pieces with VoiceQuad. In February 2008 he sang with the Northern Sinfonia in the première of Camacho’s piece Savannah at the SAGE Gateshead under the baton of H.K. Gruber.
